Endorphins and Acupuncture

Feeling good with acupuncture flower head
Release of our bodies natural opiates, endorphines have been linked to acupuncture.
A new theory making a connection between acupuncture and endorphins.

In the 1970s, John Hughes and Hans Kosterlitz at Aberdeen University discovered endorphins in the brain. Endorphins are our body's natural opiates, produced when we experience stress. Endorphin release from neurons increases during exercise and this is thought to promote a feeling of well-being. Endorphin release has also been linked with acupuncture, the traditional Chinese medical practice of inserting needles into the body to relieve pain.
Dr. Fogel has had great success utilizing acupuncture and oriental medicine in the treatment of pain and related problems.  Acupuncture has been shown to elevate the levels of endorphins in cerebrospinal fluid following acupuncture. Endorphin, abbreviated from "endogenous morphine," is an endogenous opiate produced naturally in the body.

Endorphins are renowned worldwide as anti-stress hormones that relieve pain naturally. It has been confirmed that endorphins have both neurological and spinous effects. Among the various functions of endorphins are its capabilities to enhance the immune system, improve blood circulation, control pain and ward off the effects of aging.
Dr. Fogel’s treatments are designed for each individual experiencing pain.  When endorphins are low, people feel more anxious and are more aware of pain. Her approach to control pain has yield good results.  If you are interested in utilizing acupuncture to control pain, Please call us at (479) 582-4325 in Fayetteville, Arkansas.
